If you want to build a solid house able to weather storms, it’s obvious that you need solid foundations. The taller the building, the deeper the foundations need to be. Experiencing optimal health and wellbeing is no different.
If you want to improve your wellbeing, where do you start?
Commonly, people have so many health issues that they begin to feel overwhelmed, normally resulting in them ‘chasing their tails’ and merely treating symptoms as they arise.
At HealthTribe we believe in the body’s amazing ability to heal itself, once provided with the right environment. Think of a pot plant that’s been placed in the shade when it should be in the sunlight; it starts to wither and die. Simply moving the plant into the sunlight will help the plant to thrive – the plant is still the same but you’ve changed the environment.
Build health and vitality
Living with meaning, feeling happy, being fit, being pain-free and sleeping soundly are just some of the side effects of making healthy choices.
At HealthTribe we use six Foundational (keyword) principles to help build a solid temple that can withstand any storm. The principles are:
Thinking
Thoughts create words, which create deeds. Being mindful about what you think will make sure you manifest what you desire.
Breathing
We take around 12,000 breaths per day. Most of those breaths are unconscious, but did you know that our thoughts and emotions directly affect the quality of our breathing? Stinking thinking, a poor diet and poor posture can wreak havoc with our breathing and therefore our ability to produce energy.
Hydration
Being adequately hydrated allows us to detoxify, regulates our core temperature and allows our cells to replicate. Even a 1-2% reduction in hydration can drastically affect our bodily functions.
Diet
Hippocrates said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” Food is more than what it tastes like! Well-digested and absorbed food literally becomes part of you! With this in mind, do you want your body (temple) to be made out of processed foods or natural organic food? Eating quality food, at the right time, is probably one of the most important aspects of your health and wellbeing.
Movement
Life is movement; if you stop moving, you stop living!
There are two types of movement – ‘working out’ and ‘working in’. ‘Working out’ is traditionally a Western style of exercise that expends energy and ‘working in’, which cultivates and balances energy, is traditionally an Eastern practice – such as Tai Chi, Qigong and yoga. I encourage my clients to think of the different types of movement as a tool and to choose the right tool dependent on their needs.
Sleep
Getting enough quality sleep allows us to repair from the stressors of the day, whether it’s physical, mental or emotional. If your stress levels are high or you want to have consistent energy then sleep needs to be your priority.
Be warned: ignore these principles at your peril!
You may have a fantastic diet and exercise regularly, but if you don’t sleep well and have a negative outlook on life you’re not going to experience the benefits. Instil these foundations and your temple will be able to build high and survive earthquakes! Whether you have autoimmune disease, cancer or want to beat your 5K run time, the foundational principals need to be where you start.
